The Department of Biochemistry is started in the year 1997. Biochemistry is a central basic discipline to all branches of Biology/ Life Sciences. It deals with the chemical nature, function, structure, energetic and pathways of synthesis and degradation of simple to complex biological and/or cellular molecules to understand the various aspects of cellular and molecular functions in development, health and disease with applications in Biotechnology and Medicine.

Scope of Biochemistry

People who pursue career in the field of biochemistry are referred as biochemists.
Biochemists can work both in public and private sector.
Biochemists usually involved in research related works they can also work for various organizations including Hospital, Agriculture, Drug discovery, Education field and forensic crime research.
Biochemistry spills over in to pharmacology, Physiology, Microbiology and clinical chemistry.
Biochemist investigate mechanism of drug action, engage in viral research, conduct research pertaining of organ function, use procedure and techniques to study diagnosis and therapy of disease.
